Shops along the Algarve

The choice of shops is quite exceptional as traditional small family shops, fresh fish, meat and vegetable markets abound alongside modern chains like IKEA and Primark. We quickly learned that if you see something and can afford it then go for it straightaway or miss it. Returning even hours later is often too late

Loulé on a Saturday morning is a special place to look around shops and join hundreds of local people and visitors in the bustling Municipal Market. This building has been recently re-furbished after 100 years of being one of the most loved and visited places on the Algarve

IKEA - near Faro at Junction 13 on A22

Opened in mid-2017 before many other new shopping outlets have been completed. The style is similar to others around Europe and the USA with a Portuguese approach, signage and food - that is well presented and low cost

The Aqua Shopping Mall is the most modern we have seen in Portugal complete with brilliantly presented store fronts, an outside food court in the sun and even the odd chain store such as Primark and Jumbo. A favourite store is one devoted to cat memorabilia - this store is one of around 70 such stores around Spain and Portugal

Central Portimão

An established and handy Shopping arcade called CONTINENTE is off the dual carriageway just inside Portimão

Alvor centre is perched on a small hill that invites smaller shops, restaurants and some residential living overlooking the glorious harbour. Very few examples are here so do visit the Alvor page for more. One new store this year is the French chain 'Pylones'.
